The British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) define counselling as: "Counselling & psychotherapy are umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies. They are delivered by trained practitioners who work with people over a short or long term to help them bring about effective change or enhance their well being." I see counselling as a way of simply looking after yourself. Just as our bodies require food & water to survive ...... we also need love, a sense of purpose & belonging, time to reflect, awareness of needs and TO BE KIND TO OURSELVES. Our minds require the staples just as our bodies do. A balanced mind & body can lead to endless possibilities. What you learn within therapy can become your own personal tools to add to your collection of helpful patterns, thoughts, behaviours and accessories....your private treasure chest of resources!
Counselling is suitable for people from all walks of life; from very young children to those at the more mature end of the spectrum. All you need is the desire for change and the commitment to be true to yourself. No one therapy suits all. When we meet for the first time I will go through a non-diagnostic assessment to discover who you are, what led you to this point in time and what it is that you are seeking from therapy.....then we can look at how best to move forward in a way that supports you at that moment in time and in to the future. This may include traditional talking therapy, perhaps hypnotherapy, or maybe using the Rewind Technique (to name some of the approaches that I use) .... and of course it may be a combination of any of these! If you want to discuss counselling for yourself, or you and your partner together then feel free to contact me now.
